Little Tern

Description: Size of a starling, the Little Tern displays a disproportionately large head, an incomplete cap – not reaching down on to the forehead. The bill is yellow with a black tip, and the legs are orange. The mantle is light blue-grey, and the front edge of the wing alula to quill tips is dark grey. The bird’s length is 22-24 cm.

Habitat: A fairly rare species, mainly nesting in river shoals, islands, easy-sloping lakeshores in mid to short grasses, and completely barren shallows.
