Description: Size of a starling, the Jack Snipe is the smallest and shortest-billed of the snipes. The bill is a bit longer than half the length of the head, always under 43 mm. It displays a dark cap without the lighter splitting bar, and a light double brow, split by a longitudinal dark bar. The length is 19-23 cm.
Habitat: The bird is rare and secretive. It inhabits very wet sedge-beds or mossy and sedge-grown bogs with short and thick grass and thinner shrubbery, as well as in flooded meadows.
