Velvet Scoter

Description: Large diver species, the velvet scoters nest in the north of both the Old and New Worlds, primarily by lakes rich in fish. Their coloration is black, like that of the Common Scoter, with the Velvet Scoter being slightly taller and having white flickers on the wings and a white spot behind the eyes. It feeds on mollusks and small fish.

Habitat: They are migratory birds, wintering in the moderate areas (inRussia – by the Black andCaspianSeas).
