Greater Scaup

Description: This is a fairly large heavily-built duck with the body length of 42-52 cm, with male species weighing 744-1372 gr, against 690-1312 gr of female. It is an excellent diver and a fast flyer, easily taking off water. The cock duck has its head, neck, chest and rear black, its back is light grey, with the white belly and sides. The females are darker brown grey, with a white ring of a thumb’s breadth at the base of the beak.

Habitat: A migratory bird, Greater Scaup settles in large and mainly flowing lakes rich in aquatic vegetation.
