Teal

Description: The smallest of the ducks encountered locally, it is set aside well by the size alone from any other duck, except for the Garganey. In the spring, the cock duck exhibits a complex pattern of green and chestnut brown on the head; at distance the head simply looks dark. The bird is 34-38 cm long.

Habitat: Teals settle in most diverse water-bodies, including smaller creeks, ditches and swamps, where ducks would be quite rare otherwise. The Teal is one of the most common ducks.
