Moorhen

Description: Size of a pigeon or teal, the Moorhen is dark, almost black, with a grey-blue hue on the under parts and a brown hue on the back and wings. The bill (apart from the yellow top) and the leathery shield on the forehead are bright red. The length is 32-35 cm.

Habitat: It settles in stagnant water bodies with beds of reed, bulrush, cattail, sedges and other vegetation. The bird flies fasts, with the long legs protracted beyond its tail. Although common in some places, it is otherwise a rare species requiring protection.
