Coot

Description: Size of an average duck, the coot is coated in uniformly opulent, matte, dark grey next to black plumage, lighter on the belly. The bill and the leathery shield on the forehead are white. The feet have semicircular crests on the toes and no webbing. The bird paddles with the head tilted forward and down, nodding in rhythm to strokes. Its length is 36-38 cm.

Habitat: The Coot is a common bird residing on stagnant and slow water with reed-beds, bulrush, cattail, alternating with open water.
