Field (Short-tailed) Vole

Apart from the voles described, there are the rarer species in the region: the field vole and the root-vole. They are few in numbers, and are encountered in wet biotopes of the northern and southern woodlands: in swamped forests, bush thickets, tussock floodplains, edges of sedge and mossy marshes, and banks of rivers and lakes. They forage on the greens, and are vehicles to a number of diseases.
