Greater Spearwort

Ranunculus_linguaA large perennial grassy plant, it has rootstalk-like subterraneous shoots and root buds at the knots. The stem has long internodes, and is 50-150 cm tall. The leaves – including the lower ones – are elongated, oblong to lance-shaped, smooth-edged and serrate, narrowing up and pointed at the tips, stem-clasping. Their length is 20-30 cm, and breadth – 2-4 cm. The actinomorphic bright yellow flowers are big – up to 2-5 cm across, with an oval and bare base. The fruit is a nucleus with bare seeds 2-3 mm long and flattened on the sides, with a thin line across, and a short hooked beak.
