Osprey

Description: Osprey is a rather large bird of contrasting coloration. It is different from other birds of prey by the white – if slightly yellowish – downside of the body; there is only a smallish necklace-like hem of darker streaks across the crop. On the undersides of the wing there is a characteristic black-and-white pattern, with a specifically remarkable spot at the carpal. Its length is 55-70 cm.

Habitat: The Osprey is a very rare species settling in large and clean water-bodies rich in fish and using tall dry-topped trees for nesting. It is listed inRussia’s Red Book.
