OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is a perennial species 50-120 cm tall with long subterraneous rootstalks allowing for faster sprawl and asexual propagation, often forming vast colonies.

It is common and widespread in wet forests, ravines, wet and swamped meadows, and along shorelines. It flowers June through August.
