Buckbean

Menyanthes trifoliataThe buckbean grows in ditches, bayous, lakes, ponds, bogs, riverbanks and swamped meadows. It can also be encountered in swamped forests. Shoots of 1-4 leaves emerge from the water. On the tips of the flower-stalks, whitish pink flowers form trusses. Each flower has five petals and stamens, a five-sepal cup and a pistil. It flowers in May-June.
