This is a small plant with the stems issuing roots at nodes, and smallish spatulate leaves narrowing down to a long stalk. It propagates both asexually and via seeds. The smallish flowers are singular and axillary. The seeds are brownish, U-shaped, in a ball-like tetrathecal case.
A rare species, it inhabits lake shoals, still-waters of shoaled bays and wet mud banks.
