Black-Throated Diver

Description: Size of a smaller goose, the diver has a black-and-white contrasting pattern on the back and the upper sides of the wings, which from afar looks like big white spots against black background. The tarso-metatarsus of the bird is black, the dactyls are grey, and the palama is either grey or pinkish. The iris in the younglings is brown, becoming dark-red in the adults. The bird is 58-73 cm long, weighing 2 to3.3 kg.

Habitat: Clean and bayou lakes, with milder overgrowth. The black-throated diver is enlisted in the Red Book of Russia.
